PADAM: Project Code Published under GPL


An  Opening to the Open World

Happy to inform that, SIMPLE Groups, marked the entry to the open world by  making the project code of PADAM  openly available.

Pratctical Aid for Disambiguation Application in Malayalam (PADAM), is one of the prestigious project from SIMPLE Groups, done by  Mujeeb Rehman, as part of his master thesis. He also published his work in IJLTET, November issue. Now, the code has been published as open source for researchers and other language enthusiasts under GPL. 

We congratulates Mujeeb Rehman for making the vision and mission of SIMPLE Groups True, by this wonderful Xmas -New year Gift!!!

CLEAR Dec 2013 Published



The sixth issue of CLEAR published on December 19, 2013.  This edition of CLEAR comes with a tagline " Special Edition on NLP tool kits " and focuses on various NLP Toolkits such as HTK, Apache Lucene, FrameNet, ORANGE, R Language and Apertium tool kit.  The next issue will be on March 2014.

Three day workshop on " Research Methodology and Intellectual Property Rights"


The three day  training program-cum-workshop on Research Methodologies and Intellectual Property Rights, was held at GEC Sreekrishnapuram during 21st - 23rd November, 2013. The program was organized by CERD ( Centre for Engineering Research and Development ) and KSCSTE (Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment) Trivandrum. Eminent personalities from CERD, KSCSTE, academicians from reputed institutions gave sessions on various aspects of research. More than 30 faculties and PG students attended the workshop.

The first day of the workshop started  with an welcome address by Dr.P.C.Reghu Raj, Principal of GEC Sreekrishnapuram. After that the workshop was inaugurated by Dr. K.Balan, Director, CERD Trivandrum followed by his inaugural speech. The first day of the workshop came to an end with a motivational talk by Dr. K.K.Sasi, Professor Dept of E.E.E., Amrita Viswa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore. The session was mainly based on various myths and realities related to research.

 
On the second day of the workshop(22nd November, 2013), the chief speakers were from KSCSTE (Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment) Trivandrum. The session commenced with a talk on various funding schemes available from KSCSTE, for promoting technical education and research activities by Dr. V.Ajith Prabhu and Mr. Shafikh S.

The final day of the workshop was handled by two eminent academicians par excellence, Dr.K.P.Mohandas Dean-Academic, MES College of Engg., Kuttipuram and Dr. K.B.M. Nambudiripad, Former Professor of Mechanial Dept., NIT Calicut.


After that there was a feedback session in which various faculties and students gave their feedback about the workshop. The three day workshop came to an end with the distribution of certificates to all the participants by Dr.K.P.Mohandas and Dr. K.B.M. Nambudiripad.

The paper titled "Design of a Scalable Natural Language Report Management System" authored by Manu Madhavan, and Robert Jesuraj is accepted for Poster Presentation in International Conference on Natural Language Processing (ICON)-2013.

The poster presentation session is a vital component of the conference, giving researchers an opportunity for one-on-one interaction with other researchers and attendees.  Papers accepted for poster presentation will be included in the Short Communications section of ICON-2013 proceedings.

Abstract of papers presented in ICON Conference 2013 are also shortlisted for upload on TDIL-DC portal. TDIL Data Center (http://tdil-dc.in) is an initiative of Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Government of India for creating a national repository of Indian language tools, technologies, research papers and many more.

Workshop on Multilingual Computing



Mtech Computational Linguistics, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, Government Engineering College Sreekrishnapuram organized an one day workshop on " Multilingual Computing " ( sponsored by TEQIP Phase 2) in association with Swathanthra Malayalam Computing (SMC )  on October 7 2013. The purpose of the workshop was to get familiarized with various challenges and issues related to language engineering and computing. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. P C Reghu Raj , Head of Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The keynote speech was delivered by Mr. Santhosh Thottingal, Senior Software Engineer at Language Engineering team Wikimedia Foundation and project admin of SMC. Mr. Santhosh presented the need for greater emphasis on software localization and need of multilingual computing systems. He also illustrated various tools and projects related to Malayalam Computing. Later Mr Robert  introduced the basics of  Natural language programming and Mr Manu took a session on Semantic Web. The workshop was attended by more than 70 participants.

Workshop on " Art of Research "



Ancy, Deepa, Divya, Indu, Nibeesh, Prajitha, Sincy, Sreeja, Sreejith and Varsha of Second year M.Tech Computational Linguistics attended the one day workshop on " Art of Research " Conducted by Department of Computer Applications, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore in association with Advanced Computing and Communications Society, Coimbatore Chapter on 24 August 2013. The various sessions in the workshop were handled by  Dr. Saragur M Srinidhi , Dr. S.K. Sinha and Dr. S. Rajasekaran. The workshop discussed on various research issues, research methodologies, research strategies and current research opportunities. The workshop was very inspiring, motivational and enriched the participants on several aspects of research.

Adieu to First Batch of SIMPLE Groups




The pioneer batch (2011-2013) from Simple groups successfully completed their course in Computational Linguistics. The students from the 2012-14 batch had organized a Farewell party for their seniors on 31st July 2013. The function kicked off in the forenoon session with a bundle of games and entertainment. Later, the faculties including HOD joined the students for a sumptuous lunch.  The formal meeting in the afternoon session was inaugurated by Dr. P.C. Reghu Raj, the Head of Computer Science department, with an inaugural speech. During his speech, he shared some of his memories and congratulated the winners in various events. He concluded by wishing good luck to all of them in all their future endeavors. After that, the senior faculties Asst. Prof. C. Nazeer and Asst. Prof. R. Binu, followed by other staff members from CS department shared their memories with the first batch. There was a mixture of emotions among the audience when each one from the senior batch started sharing their experiences. Everyone thanked the HOD and other faculty members for their endearing efforts in helping them during the course. It was a memorable and eventful day for the Simple groups with great enthusiasm and a lot of nostalgia. 

SIMPLE Groups wishes all of them, the very best in their life ahead.!

Semantic Web Workshop




The Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore had organized a two days (26th & 27th July 2013) intensive training program on "Semantic Web: Tools and Applications". The workshop was mainly related to semantic web concepts, technologies, and its applications to various fields like search engines. The workshop included sessions on various concepts of ontologies, their implementation and mathematics of ontologies. They also provided lab sessions on Protege editor and SPARQL. The sessions were conducted by various experienced professors like Dr. T.V.Geetha and Dr. Ilango Krishnamurthi. Research scholars, faculties and PG scholars from various institutions participated in the workshop. The M.Tech 2012-14 batch from SIMPLE group attended the workshop. The sessions were really helpful and informative.

CLEAR-Jun-2013: Published








The fourth issue of CLEAR published on July, 2013. Talk on TBI



A talk on Technology-Business Incubator and its opportunities for young engineers was held on 12th June 2013. Smt. Preethi M, Manager, TBI, National Institute of Technology  Calicut (NITC) delivered the session based on the need for Technology Business Incubators. 

The primary goal of TBI is to facilitate economic development by improving survival and growth of new entrepreneurial units. They provide workspace with shared office facilities with emphasis on business and professional services necessary for nurturing and supporting early stage growth of technology based enterprises. The NITC has set up a Technology Business Incubator TBI-NITC with the support of  National
Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science&Technology, Govt. of India, to incubate start up industries in the field of IT and electronics.

During the session, Smt. Preethi explained the success stories of several entrepreneurs, for whom TBI had lend their helping hands. These successful entrepreneurs ranges from educated technocrats to laymen. One of the triumphant entrepreneur, she was talking about was an alumni  from GEC Sreekrishnapuram, Sri. Lepeesh Parat (Managing Director & CEO at ZestyBeanz Technologies Pvt Ltd.). These stories really inspired all the participants including M.Tech and B.Tech students. The session was really motivational and informative.

Divya S attended ICMCMM-2013



International Conference of Mathematical Modelling in Computer Management and Medical Sciences 2013 (ICMCMM 2013) a multidisciplinary conference jointly organized by the Department of Computer Applications, Mar Athanasios College for Advanced Studies Tiruvalla (MACFAST) and Pushpagiri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, in association with the CSI and KMA was held on 13-15 June 2013 at Thiruvalla.
